Below is a small celebration of some of my matters from the last few years that tells a story of the kinds of cases I help out with:
Copyright
I represent the artist who created the “Lord Quas” character featured on the 1999 album cover for Madlib’s Microphone Mathematics regarding the unauthorized use of the character in violation of the artist’s copyright. Griego v. Jackson, et al., C.D. Cal. case no. 2:24-cv-03260.
I represented the defendant in a “copyright troll” lawsuit and persuaded the court to dismiss the case against my client for lack of personal jurisdiction. Elliott Erwitt, LLC v. Sugar Factory, LLC, C.D. Cal. case no. 2:23-cv-00049.
In a 2023 lawsuit filed in the Central District of California, I represented a fintech startup in a copyright and right of publicity lawsuit brought by an influencer who appeared in an online ad for the company.
I represented a commercial artist and entrepreneur in a copyright ownership lawsuit against the technical consultant who helped him mint a successful NFT collection. Marquez v. Moynihan, E.D. Cal. case no. 2:22-cv-00123-JAM-KJN.
I prepared a Section 1782 application to obtain discovery from Cloudflare in support of a foreign proceeding involving copyright infringement. In re Application of Will Co Ltd., N.D. Cal. Case No. 3:21-mc-80211.
I represented a business in responding to demand letters from the Copycat Legal firm asserting copyright infringement claim based on a photograph shown on the client’s website.
Copyright-Adjacent
I represented the owner of a film and video collection in a dispute with the company who licensed it. Fried v. Oddball Films Inc., San Francisco Superior Court case no. CGC-24-611747.
Commercial Disputes
I am local counsel for a group of former employees of Twitter (now X) in arbitrations before JAMS seeking severance compensation the company promised and then refused to pay after laying them off after Elon Musk acquired the company in late 2021.
I represented an investor relations consulting company in a breach of contract claim against the customer who refused to pay its invoices. NMN Advisors, Inc. v. Sphere 3D Corp., N.D. Cal. case no. 3:23-cv-02984.
I represented a number of former vendors of Twitter (now called “X”) who the company stopped paying after Elon Musk acquired the company, fired half its employees, and stopped paying its debts. Selected matters:

Miscellaneous
I represented Jack Sweeney, a college student whose social media accounts tracking Taylor Swift’s private jet prompted a bumptious legal threat. There was significant news coverage of the cease-and-desist letter and the response from me and my co-counsel.
